Gratitude is Powerful

Presented a short devotional for our last day of women’s bible study yesterday! Oh darn, I should have had someone video me, yet another learning lesson 🙂 Hope you enjoy this journey with us!

It was a perfect blue ski Colorado day with over four-foot of powder day and my girlfriend I were skiing the trees at Berthoud Pass. Laughing, powder flying in our face, having a great time as we skied in out of the trees, when all the sudden she sat down.  I’m like what is she doing it’s a powder day, what are you doing sitting down. I skied over to her and all I could see because the she was almost completely buried in snow were tears streaming down her face.

I sat down next to her (now being buried up to my neck in snow) and asked what’s wrong girlfriend you are crying and sitting down in the middle of the run on a powder day…  She blurted out these words that I’ll never forget. I’m so sick and tired of this fall down get up game, fall down get up, fall down get up.

She was talking about life…  Sometimes life can literally feel like a fall down get up game, can anyone relate?

Well I have found there are 3 things we can do on a DAILY basis so when those dips come we have something to draw on and it comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

  1. Rejoice always
  2. pray continually
  3. give thanks in all circumstances.

Giving thanks and having gratitude does amazing things for us physically but there are three things that it can do for us on a spiritual level

  1. Being grateful reminds us who God is, who is really in control, therefor draws us closer to God
  2. Being grateful can change our thinking paradigm to a positive mindset and therefor gives us a bit more peace
  3. by taking time to be grateful we are living in obedience to God, which is where I want to be

If I may, I’d like to invite you to join me on a gratitude journey starting today and through the next year. I want to be INTENTIONALLY grateful every day, but I need others to do it with me to keep me on track. Anyone else need accountability?

What this journey means is taking a few minutes each morning when you first wake up or in the evening before you go to sleep to physically write down at least 1 to five things that you are grateful for.

There are many ways you can do this. I used to have this huge basket and every day I’d through little scraps of gratitude notes in the basket; around this time every year I would read through these gratitude notes. This was it was a very visual and impactful exercise.

Now I use the Evernote app on my phone so I have it with me at all times and I can quickly go back and review things. Do whatever works for you and I’d love to hear throughout the year how things are going for you!

Who’s going to be grateful with me each day?

Awesome, and lets also remember when we find ourselves in the fall down get up game, rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances!
